The Minister of Health, Kailash Jagutpal, announced in his press conference on the 6th of March that 5 new positive covid-19 cases were identified following the first local covid-19 case that was identified on the 5th of March.
In his press conference, the minister of health explained that the 6 cases as well as their close ones were isolated and are currently in quarantine. Further clarifications were given whereby Kailash Jagutpal explained that contact tracing was immediately started and that 200 more contact tracing was done today.
“This is a very serious situation, as we speak right now, it will be very difficult to tell what the situation will be like in the coming hours as the contact tracing goes on.” said the Minister of Health to the press
During the press conference the Ministry of Health also called out to everyone who attended a prayer on the 28th of February at the Full Gospel Church of God situated at LVD, Curepipe to stay isolated and to call the hotline. These people will be tested for covid-19 and eventually will be put in quarantine.
“As from midnight, no foreign passengers will be able to access Mauritian territory. This was done as a provision, if there are more covid cases, more room will be needed in the quarantine centers. This would allow the Ministry of Health to focus on the contact tracing as well as the vaccination program that is currently in process.”
“The second decision is as from midnight, all passengers from Mauritius going to Rodrigues will be prohibited to travel.” explained the Minister of Health.
Until now, there are 27 active cases in treatment centers, and 6 local cases in Mauritius.
